The 2023 XXL Freshman Class has been released, with 80 shortlisted candidates reduced to 12, representing the most critically acclaimed emerging talent in the hip-hop industry, and it features West London’s 25 year old Central Cee, real name Oakley Caesar-Su.

Central Cee’s feature on the XXL Freshman Class is another groundbreaking moment for UK rap, as it demonstrates our continued growth and the development of international recognition.

His inclusion on the last comes off the back of another successful 12 months for the rap star. He’s had 11 songs chart in the Top 75, been nominated for two BRIT awards, and won two MOBO awards. Of-course, he’s also continued to release music that streams exceptionally well, and at the time of writing, his track Sprinter from his collab project with Dave has accrued 30 million views on YouTube in just 2 weeks.

The Shepherds Bush rapper is joined by GloRilla, Finesse2Tymes, Lola Brooke, Rob49, Fridayy, 2Rare, SleazyWorld Go, Central Cee, Real Boston Richey, Luh Tyler, TiaCorine and DC the Don.

A spokesperson had the following to say: “Narrowing down over 80 artists this year to 12, these talents have not only been the cream that has risen to the top, but serve as a representation of the current pulse of this year’s sound: inimitable, eclectic, vibe-y, nostalgic and damn good,”
