Chadwell Heath home gets 162 viewings in 1 week

Some are dubbing a two-bedroom home in Chadwell Heath, Barking and Dagenham, the ‘UK’s most popular home’ after it received 162 viewings and 52 offers in one week of being the market, causing large queues to form into its street. The monthly rent was £1200.

Interested party Adeel Hasnain sped from Harrow to Chadwell Heath to view the property, and was shocked at how many people were also interested, posting videos of the crowd on social media.

Adeel said he had been struggling to rent in London: “Nowadays it has been very difficult to get a suitable house at a price you can afford. I have been looking for more than a month but still haven’t made much progress.”

Adam Picton, on behalf of Purple Bricks, said the property was so popualr because of its location and characteristics.

He said: “First of all, the price compared to most two-bedroom houses near the station was somewhat generous.

“It’s pretty hard finding a property that ticks every single box, but when it’s within your budget, has a garden, has two double bedrooms, a driveway, is close to the station, is within school catchments, a decent sized kitchen and a shed for storage…most tenants would give an arm and a leg for all that.”

The winning offer was nearly £200 above the original asking price, and some tenants were allegedly willing to offer even more.

It has recently been reported that RM5 and RM7 of Havering are among the most popular property hotspots in the country. People unable to venture into inner London due to the cost-of-living crisis are searching in outer boroughs which is creating competitiveness and demand.

Matt Thompson, head of sales at estate agency chain Chestertons, said: “What’s further driving demand for these areas are ongoing infrastructural investments such as the Elizabeth Line which has vastly extended the search radius for some house hunters.”
