Loveday jailed for killing woman on A13

Ashley Loveday

Ashley Loveday, 39, of Avondale Road was sentenced to 14 years at the Old Bailey on Thursday, March 9th for killing Grace Payne, 21, of Upminster while driving the wrong direction of the A13 through Dagenham.

He previously pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving, causing serious injury by dangerous driving and aggravated vehicle taking.

Loveday was driving a stolen van with falsified plates, and this led to Essex Police Officers requesting it to stop, but he refused. He began to accelerate in efforts to flee police, and drove in the wrong direction on the A13 against oncoming traffic, reaching speeds of 71mph. He then collided with the vehicle the victim was in.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, and Loveday was injured and taken to hospital where he was discharged after a month, with his injuries deemed to be of moderate severity. He was then charged by detectives from the Met’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit and remanded in custody.
