Man ‘killed his mother with blunt force’

by
Mitchell Denahy

Mitchell Denahy, 27, of Waverly Avenue, Waltham Forest, was found guilty of manslaughter after his mother Beverly Denahy, 61, was found lifeless and concealed in clothes at her property.

Emergency services attended Waverly Avenue following reports of a disturbance. First responders found the mother lying in the hallway with her body clearly submerged by clothing and domestic items. Blood splatter was on the walls, and it was clear she was subjected to head and facial juries. She was declared dead at the scene.

A post-mortem declared the cause of death as blunt force trauma to the head. Mitchell’s clothing was seized during the investigation, and it was found to be stained with the victim’s blood. A metal stopcock key, used to control the water supply to houses, was also found to be heavily blood-stained.

Denahy was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder, and later charged a few days later. In interview, he gave ‘no comment’ responses to all questions.

Denahy was originally brought before a Crown Court to be trialed for murder, but a jury could not reach a decision. He was later found guilty of manslaughter after being brought before Snaresbrook Crown Court again.

Detective Chief Inspector Laurence Smith, Specialist Crime, said: “Our thoughts are with Beverley’s family, who have had to face losing her in such a tragic and distressing way.”
