A council tenant living on Meadow Road, Dagenham, RM9, has been prohibited from entering his property for three months, as the Metropolitan Police and Barking and Dagenham Council were concerned it was being used to facilitate the use and distribution of illegal drugs.

Local residents also reported seeing ‘offensive weapons’ in the front garden, fires being started both inside and outside the home, in addition to other forms of anti-social behaviour.

It is possible the unlawful activity within the property was outside of the tenant’s control, as they were known to mental health, drug, and alcohol services, and prior to being removed from the property they were offered supported housing but insisted on a full closure order, meaning they cannot return and will be provided alternative accommodation.

Council enforcement officer, in a join effort with the Metropolitan Police, made their case at Barkingside Magistrates Court on Thursday, June 22nd.

Cllr Syed Ghani, cabinet member for enforcement and community safety said: “We take anti-social behaviour extremely seriously in Barking and Dagenham and if we get reports, we will always take action.

“Where this involves a vulnerable tenant we will always offer them support and alternative accommodation if they need it.”
