Romford officer Marsh ‘beat man he mistook for a suspect’

Jonathan Marsh, 33, of a BCU command unit that polices Barking & Dagenham, Redbridge, and Havering, appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court today (6th June) charged with assault by beating.

Jonathan Marsh is accused of assaulting a man he mistook for a suspect at an incident of criminal damage on Atlanta Boulevard, Romford, east London, on November 13 2022. He allegedly used ‘excessive force’ to arrest the man, but later was forced to de-arrest him.

After an investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct he was placed on restricted duties and formally charged. In court he has denied the charge.

Marsh was given unconditional bail and a trial date was set for November 6 at Westminster Magistrates’ Court.
