Zaynab Qasim, 5, from Romford, saved her mother’s life when she stopped breathing by bravely following a call handler’s directions via 999. London Ambulance Service has released a video that’s gone viral.

Last June, on the journey home from school her mother fell unconscious. She called 999 and gave the call handler her address, location markers, and described what her mother was experiencing.

Explaining the incident to the call handler calmly she says: “So my Mummy picked me up from school and then we came back home and then she got sick.” She also says that her mother fainted.

The call handler asks Zaynab: “Is your Mum breathing?” and she says: “No.”

Then she’s asked: “What’s the address?” And Zaynab is able to successfully confirm her address. She’s then asked: “What part of London is that in?” and she confidently responds: “Romford.”

Zaynab then highlights the recognisable landmarks in her area, describing the nearby fire station.

When asked for her mother’s age, she says she doesn’t know but then adds: “She’s a big girl! She’s the adult.”

The ambulance crew got to her mother whose collapse was due to a severe migraine. Zaynab met her call handler at the London Ambulance Service headquarters and she was awarded a certificate for her bravery.
